Clinical Supervision

Clinical supervision is part of what keeps us useful to the people we work with. Below are the supervisors at A Quiet Room by the Shore — each with their own approach and way of working. Have a look through, and get in touch with whoever feels like a good fit.

About

I'm an experienced psychodynamic supervisor. I work with both trainees and qualified practitioners. I have a reputation for being both supportive and challenging.

Approach

I offer supervision to both trainees and qualified practitioners. My core modality is psychodynamic but I am happy to work in other modalities if this is your choice. As a supervisor, I see my role as that of a gatekeeper of the profession. Working ethically is very important to me. However, I aim to provide a supportive and compassionate approach. I won't tell you what to do but I will offer suggestions and advice. I offer a free first session so you can "try before you buy".

About

People choose to work with you because there is something about you that speaks to them. They see something in you that gives them hope for a different future. Mixing science and authenticity of who you are as a human, makes the therapist. If you want to make more impact as a therapist that is uniquely you then let me help get you there.

Approach

Supervision is generally on a fortnightly or monthly basis. Ad-hoc consultation is also available on a case by case basis; this is particularly for my areas of specialism such as OCD and PTSD. I am trained and experienced in providing clinical supervision to psychologists and other mental health professionals, and have undertaken further trauma-focused cognitive therapy (TF-CT) specialist supervisor training. I offer supervision for adults and have particular expertise in OCD, anxiety and PTSD. I clinically supervise both psychologists and non-psychologists on a case-by-case basis.

About

Professional development, guidance and support for your wellbeing as a practitioner

Approach

My approach to supervision runs parallel to my approach to client work. I want to work alongside you to create an open, non-shaming and creative space in which to support your practice and development as a therapist. I bring substantial professional experience to my work as a supervisor in both Higher Education and the third sector, as well a decade of my own clinical practice. My commitment is to provide a holding relationship built on the foundation of mutuality, respect and reflexivity to support your learning, development and wellbeing. My aim is to create a supervisory experience which is supportive, elucidating and enjoyable. My clinical practice has long involved working with processes around shame and anxiety, many of which can be present in supervision, and I have significant experience of creating safe relationships in which we can hold these processes and create a rich, relational dynamic in which we can together make space for all of you, regardless of your stage of development or the modality in which you work. I am committed to anti-oppressive, ethical, inclusive, intersectional work. I completed my Diploma in Counselling Supervision at Physis Scotland bringing to fruition a long-standing interest in teaching and support which began when I worked in Higher Education and was a member of the Higher Education Academy. If you’d like to discuss supervision please contact me and we can arrange an initial session.

I offer clinical supervision to Counselling Psychology trainees, and students who are training in related professions (such as pluralistic counselling and psychotherapy, CBT training, and other applied psychologies). Please get in touch to talk about this, as I am familiar with training programme requirements and can offer a concessionary fee.
