Welcome to our Community!

A Quiet Room by the Shore, AQR for short, is a well-established, supportive and growing community of independent, private counsellors, psychotherapists as well as clinical and/or counselling psychologists based in Edinburgh’s neighbourhood of Leith.

We share a belief that working alongside thoughtful, skilled and committed colleagues makes us all better practitioners, and that the quality of the environment in which therapy takes place matters greatly.

Our community is deliberately small and carefully considered, with our members coming from a range of therapeutic backgrounds, skill sets and therapeutic specialisms. We welcome practitioners at all career stages, from newly qualified therapists looking for a professional home to experienced clinicians seeking a more considered working environment.

Our Values

We ask that all members of our community are fully qualified, hold a relevant professional membership or accreditation, engage in regular clinical supervision and are committed to ongoing professional development.

A Quiet Room is an inclusive and actively queer-positive space and therapy centre. We welcome clients and practitioners of all backgrounds, identities, orientations and lived experiences. We expect our members to provide safe, affirming and non-judgemental support to their clients.
